October is considered as the Science month and in line with this, the yearly Division Science Fair/YES-O Festival was held last October 10-11, 2014 in preparation for the upcoming 2014 Regional Science Fair.
Different contests such as the Sci Arts, Sci Dama, and Science Quiz bee for both elementary and secondary level were held in order to hone the scientific skills and talents of students. The highlight of the activity however is the Investigatory projects wherein students and future researchers present their studies and defend it in front of a panel of judges.
For the first time ever, Yeun Soo-St. Jude International School, Inc. sent Monique Ato, Jamby Baldago and Lee Anthony Ballesca, with the guidance of their coach Zhannis Lacerna to participate in the Investigatory Project Cluster 1 Life Sciences category. Their study entitled “Assessing the Genotoxic and Cytotoxic Effects of Water Samples from Residence Areas in Engineer’s Hill, Aurora Hill, and Balili Riv
er using Allium cepa Assay” grabbed the fifth place in the said competition out of a total of 20 schools that participated in the whole Baguio city for the said category alone.
Their study was given a chance to advance to the Regional level in Apayao this upcoming November, 2014.
Congratulations to the students and may they grab now the top place during the regional level.
